Cristal is certainly the most famous wine of the Roederer maison and this 2008 blend certainly does justice to its fame. Made only in the "great vintages", when the maturity of the chardonnay (about 45%) and the pinot noir (55%) that compose it is perfect, it ages in the cellar for 6 years and rests 8 months after disgorgement. The Champagne Cristal 2008 Louis Roederer is fantastic from start to finish, a colossus of power put into the engine by the pinot combined with the undeniable elegance of the chardonnay. A Cristal with a concentrated style, dense to the point of being able to chew rather than drink, but enlivened by the innate freshness and minerality of the best Marne crus. An immense Champagne that we like because it is already heavenly, but which with a few years of maturity behind it could even become divine.
