The grapes used for the production of LBV come from low production vineyards in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro Valley. They are foot trampled in "lagares" granite and then the wine is aged in large wooden vats, in the cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. It is the tradition of Niepoort to start bottling LBV four years after the harvest to maintain the freshness and fruitiness that are characteristic of these wines.
